Happiness begins with a choice.

You can’t choose to be happy.

What you can do is choose to engage in behaviors which have been scientifically demonstrated to belong to happier people, as well as behaviors which have been scientifically demonstrated to increase other people’s happiness.

Choosing happiness means choosing behaviors that lead to happiness.

On this site, I provide strategies for living a happier life using three frameworks: body, mind, and social being.

  • Body: these are biological strategies, focused on improving your well-being and providing your body with the elements necessary to feel good. Happiness starts with your brain’s ability to produce the so-called feel-good neurotransmitters, including serotonin, oxytocin, endorphins, dopamine, and more.
  • Mind: the tools of the mind are techniques that let you translate your body‘s biological signals into healthy thinking. Or possibly just healthier thinking, because our evolutionary programming can be very hard to override. These are the strategies where many happiness courses begin, including awareness, acceptance, gratitude, mindfulness, appreciation, anticipation, metacognition, and so on. These mental tools help you focus on enjoying your life experiences.
  • Social being: all the gratitude in the world will not make you happy if your life feels empty. Creating happiness requires building community, having fun, developing your own purpose in life, living according to your values, and much more. These strategies focus on how you exist in the world, and how you spend your time.

The ultimate goal of Choosing Happiness is to develop the kind of self understanding and feel good habits that will let you consistently, most days, make choices that bring you satisfaction, engagement, and enjoyment.

Happiness Consulting

I have a limited number of spaces available for individual consulting/coaching services, via Zoom/Facetime, telephone, email/text, or some combination thereof.

Consulting begins with a single session ($50) where you tell me your story and we decide if we’re a good fit. You will not be expected to decide on the spot! But if we mutually agree (within the next three days) that I can help you make your life more satisfying, engaging, and enjoyable, you’ll choose from one of three consulting packages.

Happiness Packages

  • The Wellness Package: six weeks, focusing on the foundation of happiness and the fuels of happiness, or in other words, improving the quality of your sleep, nutrition, and movement. Currently $450.
  • The Core Package: ten weeks, beginning with well-being and moving on to developing the emotional resilience tools of awareness, acceptance, appreciation, and anticipation. Currently $750.
  • The Full Package: fourteen weeks, in which we’ll go over well-being and emotional resilience, and then look for ways to create more happiness in your life, by considering what opportunities exist for you to find more community, meaning and fun within the life you’re already living. Currently $1000.

As your happiness consultant, my goal is to be a supportive partner, a cheerleader, an accountability buddy, and a resource for ideas & inspiration for your personal quest for a happier life.
